I am recording my new novel, Nine O’Clock Horses, to be serialized on KCIW as a podcast each week. This is my own story based on my life during World War II as a child. You can listen to it and other stories on KCIW Curry Coast Community Radio each week. STORYTIME comes on every Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.

This is a story based on my own life during WWII which I started to read at Artistic License Event at Brian Scott Gallery several months ago.

  1. My husband and I just finished listening to Part 4 and are really enjoying it. I’m really interested in the fact that your sister studied directly with Maria Montessori! I’d love to know more about that.

Also … I guess my husband listens better than I do because when you mentioned that Colin stopped for ice cream he noticed that you had said you couldn’t get ice cream during the war. We didn’t go back to check for the timeline … so that may be after the war. Did we miss something???

    • Also … I think I’m going to see if I can re-post this part by part if that’s ok with you. It’s pretty confusing to scroll down through the KCIW archives so I’ll make it easier for people to open. Is that OK with you?

  2. Listening to this story made me think of when families gathered around to listen to their favorite shows on the radio. I have some memories of Fibber McGee and Molly … and Amos and Andy (which was actually recorded in the tower of the El Mirador Hotel in Palm Springs!) Richard remembers a bunch of them from when he was growing up in the mountains near Evergreen, Colorado.

I’m going to listen to this one again with him and we’re going to “gather around the computer” to hear the rest :-)! THANKS!
